THE COLLEGE OF WESTCHESTER LIBRARY
FOCUS ON FACULTY

LIBRARY, AT YOUR SERVICE

WITHIN YOUR CLASSROOM

WebCT – Your virtual classroom can do so much more! WebCT can integrate library sources so it will direct your students to reliable sources via your own course site.

Classroom Database/Catalog Instruction – Already utilized by the faculty, remember instruction can consist of a general overview/introduction to library databases or customized instruction relating to your course.

FACULTY SERVICES

Reserves – Place reserves on highly sought after sources. Allow all your students access to materials by limiting its usage to the library.

Electronic Reference – Reference that's convenient for you! E-mail your question anytime to reference@cw.edu

Materials Request – We value your professional expertise. If you have a suggested acquisition, in any format, please fill out a form at the circulation desk in the Library.

Interlibrary Loan – If we don't have it, someone else will. To request materials that the Library does not own, please contact a librarian and we will do our best to accommodate you.

  DEVELOPING STUDENTS' RESEARCH SKILLS

Research Paper Topics – Often a tricky area for students; they're not sure where they should start their research or if a topic has too little or too much information. We can help students narrow down their research or broaden it if necessary.

Searching Databases/Catalog – Sometimes a little guidance can go so far. The Librarians are here to point the students to the right resources and assist them in their online searches.

Selection of Resources – What is the difference between a scholarly work and a popular work? The Library is here to help students' select appropriate resources for their research.

Evaluation of Information - The Library is here to assist students in selecting relevant and useful information for their research. We can point students to a full article on their topic versus a news brief.

Citing of Sources – The library will reiterate the MLA standards for citation and can answer student's questions when they are writing their papers. The Library directs students' to the MLA style sheet, MLA handbook and other reputable reference guides.
